Older teens in YA books
While unable to sleep last night, I started thinking about authors I wish would put out more books. I landed on Hilary Frank. If you haven't read Better Than Running at Night and I Can't Tell You, go do so. I got to thinking about how her books are YA, but feature kids in college. Then I tried to come up with more YA novels with college-aged protagonists, but came up empty. Can anyone else think of any? I must just be drawing a blank.

Megan McCafferty comes to mind with her numbered series (Sloppy Firsts, etc.). The main character is in high school in the first few books but by the fourth one is a college grad. You and I have discussed how it's curious to see where these books are shelved in bookstores - sometimes they're in YA, sometimes in general fiction. Also she fits the bill as another author I wish would put out more books!

i think it happens in fantasy (though, naturally, i don't have an example at hand) -- or, at least, an 18- or 19-year-old character is more likely there -- but, of course, they're also generally not living in a world that *has* college, so this probably isn't really what you're asking. 8-) i know my own protagonist is about 18 at the start of the book. then again, my uk publisher is marketing it as adult. and again, not what you were asking. but it's doing a good job allowing me to procrastinate from my writing.
i was wondering, kristin, about fantasy books, as they're not generally what i read. and i do mean "college-aged" both as in going to college and simply older teen. so you are answering my question:)
