I understand that some of you have read through the entire series (I have not). I'm wondering if Meyer explains how Bella is able to conceive a vampire baby. Being undead, I would expect Edward to have a sperm count of zero.
I know Angel fathered a child with another vampire during one of the seasons of his show. I vaguely remember there being some mystical explanation - or at least the improbability of the whole thing was a topic of discussion.
There is a hand-waving fanwanky explanation about how vampirism prevents change, so female vampires can't carry a baby, because that requires change, but sperm doesn't require any change to deliver its DNA package. Actually, she didn't even go into that much detail, but that's basically what she's saying.
